Any thoughts on using this as a protective layer under the car/truck/suv?

I've seen commercials for the 'rubberized' one that's supposed to be pretty good. It seems like a good idea. (it's the commercial where you see like a crate of oranges on a tailgate and he takes a turn at our pace or slower.) I know we have our bucket trucks decks coated with some type of Ryno Liner, but before we had ours coated, there were exposed to rain, salt, & junk. The beds started to rust underneath the liner and started falling off piece by piece. I don't know if they've changed or revised their application process, but if you don't do it when it's practically brand new off the lot, it seems the beds will eventually rust.

They do make a product that is made to go over rust, but I'm not sure how much I trust it *yet*. I'll get the name of the stuff, but apparently it does quite a good job..

i don't we had an issue with the product going 'over' the rust, i think it was an issue from the rust underneath of the steel. This is 'brian's department' anywayz

Our new bucket truck already had it done as well as the actual bed of the truck. So i think it stands a better chance than before, but only time will tell.

Covering rust with anything will not help...it will still just eat away at the metal from the inside out. You really need to remove rust and the surrounding good metal to make it stop.

IMO undercoating in general is not the best idea these days, particularly if you inadvertently plug up drain holes or create areas that trap water, for the reasons listed above.

Or you could always burn it off with a superheated cat for no good reason. :P

It is interesting to hear that they are actually doing it. Makes sense for work trucks. They get beat up something fierce. It definitely doesn't make sense to do it unless it is rust free to start with.
